This trip was destined to happen for years…I had watched the migration on National Geographic with my dad and clearly remember after a brief hospital stay I told him that one day I will do this trip with him. Years passed by and it was forgotten, until a year or so ago whilst having coffee with a friend, we started to talk about our bucket list trips (my bucket is really big!!!).
In an instant I decided that next year we will be going to Kenya and I am taking my dad with me. And usually when I say that I am going somewhere, it means I AM going there.
I emailed a few companies to package a trip together for us, and a few days later I got a response from Daniel from African Budget Safaris.
For the price quotes compared to the rest of the quotes I received had two emotions running wildly through me :
Excitement as to the affordability, and
Absolute horror as to what to expect, I mean why is this company so affordable compared to the other quotes I have received!
So I did what any sane person would do… I responded to his email with a list of questions and also called SATSA to verify that this company is real. The lady chuckled but confirmed that they have been around for a while and that they have never heard of any irregularities. (border line crazy I know, but hey I was about to book a trip with a company I did not know much about, traveling into East Africa and there could be no chances taken).
Daniel was wonderfully polite. Responded promptly with all my queries and changes, add ons and removals. This was so refreshing as I had not made use of an agent for bookings in a few years.
Eventually we finalized a five day trip covering Lake Nakuru, The Great Rift Valley, The Masai Mara and a touch of Nairobi. A last minute addition (literally two days prior to our departure) we added in a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara.
Our journey to be continued …. So stay tuned
